Outdoor Grilling Tips
Here are some outdoor grilling tips for your next BBQ that will make your steaks as juicy and tender as they can possibly be! Leave the steak knife in the drawer; you won’t need it if you heed these outdoor grilling tips.
The first of these outdoor grilling tips starts in the grocery or meat market. Always look for the steaks that are the darkest, pass over the red ones. The dark steaks are better aged and therefore the most tender. Another one of the outdoor grilling tips is to keep the thickness to about 3/4”. Many foods cook great on “low-n-slow” after the initial super hot for searing, but the outdoor grilling tips for steaks calls for high and leaving it there (on some models this is preheat). On a larger grill, (usually the double burner models), bring the temperature to high and place the steaks on the griddle with tongs, not a fork, for about 1½ minutes on the left or right side of the grate. Next move them to the other side and rotate them slightly. (You’re still cooking the same side; do not turn them over yet.) This gives them that great criss-cross charbroiled branding (not necessary, but it looks good). Leave it on for another 1½ minutes (total of 3 minutes for this side).
The outdoor grilling tips for seasoning requires a good seasoning salt, onion powder, lemon pepper and garlic salt. That’s it! These seasonings will all be sprinkled on the first side before they are turned over. Keep the lid closed as much as possible. Turn your steaks over and place them back to the other side of the grill since it has now had a chance to heat up some. The outdoor grilling tips now calls for another sprinkle of each seasoning and another 4 minutes for the final side. Once again, keep the lid closed as much as possible. One of the most important outdoor grilling tips, once they have been removed from the heat source, is to always let the meat rest for 5 minutes before cutting. The steaks will hold in the juices and flavor much better by waiting. If you like your steaks medium, these cooking times will be perfect. Just adjust these outdoor grilling tips for cooking times up or down by about 30 seconds for each side, you can change that from rare to well done or however you like it.
